Zelenskaya received the Dissident Human Rights Award

Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska received the Dissident Human Rights Award at the Memorial to the Victims of Communism in Washington DC.

“An award for every Ukrainian and every Ukrainian woman. This is your reward, dear compatriots!

Although the Memorial is dedicated to the victims of the crimes of communism, it should be remembered that communism – only one of the faces of totalitarianism. We easily recognize totalitarianism by its main features – aggression, violence, complete devaluation of human life, what Ukraine is dealing with in the person of Russia

Our hard-won warning to the world: remember that the darkest past easily returns. And in some places it has not disappeared and only pretends to be modernity.

At the cost of heroic efforts, we are fighting not only for our freedom. We are fighting so that Stalinist terror is no longer used anywhere and never in the civilized world.

This is what today's award that I'm taking to Ukraine testifies to,” Olena Zelenska said.
