According to the TV channel "Keshet", after many passengers stopped taking large suitcases for luggage with them, airlines faced a new problem: there is not enough space for hand luggage in the cabin.
Airlines explain their decision by the fact that there are only two pieces of luggage for four passengers in the cabin. If all passengers take small bags or suitcases with them, there is simply nowhere to place half of them. Therefore, bags that do not fit have to be sent to luggage.
According to the channel, Israir will charge $20 (about NIS 70) for carry-on luggage from 1 August. Those who check in online will not have to pay extra for a suitcase in hand luggage.
Arkia Airlines and many other foreign companies intend to introduce a similar payment.
