The death rate during the outbreak of the Omicron strain in South Africa fell due to mass vaccination of the population and the infection already suffered by many residents.
< br /> This is the conclusion reached by researchers in the Western Cape.
Scientists compared the figures during the current outbreak of the disease and the last one, which occurred due to the Delta strain. The aim of the study was to find out whether the vaccination and the previous disease protected the citizens.
As it turned out, these two factors helped those infected to endure the disease in a mild form. Thanks to vaccination, the risk of death has decreased by 59%, and the risk of severe illness – by 59%.
