WHO: Monkeypox can be contained

The World Health Organization has said that if countries take quick steps and share vaccine information, monkeypox could be contained.
Reported the Jerusalem Post.
“We think that if we take the right steps now, we can probably easily contain this. We believe that a key priority at this time is to try to contain this transmission in non-endemic countries,” said Silva Briand, WHO post-director for global infectious hazard preparedness.
Briand said states should also exchange information on stocks of first-generation smallpox vaccines, which may also be effective against monkeyspox.
“We do not know the exact number of doses available in the world, so we encourage countries to contact WHO and let us know what their stocks,” the official emphasized.
