 WHO may rename monkeypox

< /p>

The World Health Organization may decide to officially rename its variants of monkeypox.

This was stated by WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, reports The Jerusalem Post.

The fact is that the current WHO recommendations recommend avoiding the names of animals or geographical regions in the names of diseases.

It is noted that the name “monkey pox”; or “monkeypox” can be misleading as monkeys are not the main carrier of the disease. In addition, the virus can be found in other animals, especially rodents.
