Wall collapsed at construction site in Ashdod: Two builders died

Two construction workers died on Wednesday in Ashdod when a wall collapsed on them at a construction site. The dead were employees of subcontractor Israel Electric Corporation, which was engaged in infrastructure work in the southern port city. The Ministry of Labor said an initial assessment showed that a wall had collapsed while excavating underground electrical cables.
Security and police officials were dispatched to the scene and an investigation was launched.
Fire and rescue services managed to extract the men from the rubble. In a statement from the ambulance service “Magen David Adom” it is said that the arriving doctors found both men unconscious with severe head injuries. Attempts to resuscitate them have been unsuccessful.
“In recent years, industrial accidents in Israel have become a painful evil that claims many victims”, – Labor Minister Yoav Ben-Tzur commented on the incident. “According to the data, a significant proportion of accidents are caused by negligence and non-compliance with the provisions of the law.”
He promised “not to allow human lives to be neglected.” and urged relevant parties to act responsibly and join in the “resolute struggle to eradicate industrial accidents and regulate lawlessness”. br /> The tragic incident comes less than two weeks after a construction worker was killed by a collapsed wall on a site in the central district town of Bnei Brak.
