More than half a million Tesla vehicles with touchscreen interiors are being inspected in the United States.
The investigation began after a complaint was filed by one of the drivers who discovered that he could play video games while driving an electric car.
In particular, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating about 580 thousand Tesla Model 3, S and X vehicles produced after 2017 year. Tesla has yet to comment on this.
Verification is underway for a feature called Passenger Play, which allows passengers to play video games on a touchscreen in the car. However, this entertainment should initially be intended exclusively for passengers, since the game while driving is dangerous for all road users.
In theory, before starting the game, the panel requires confirmation that it is the passenger who wants to use the function. According to NHTSA, Passenger Play can distract the driver and increase the risk of an accident.
