One of Denmark's most famous landmarks has been vandalized. On the basis of the statue of the Mermaid, three colors were painted, symbolizing the Russian flag. It is reported by The Guardian.
On Thursday, Copenhagen residents reportedly noticed a red-white-blue-painted stone on which the Mermaid sits – a statue dedicated to the protagonist of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales.
The police have recorded traces of vandalism, and are also trying to find traces that can find the perpetrators. An investigation has been launched into this action, regarded as a sign of Moscow's support for the war in Ukraine.
This is not the first time this famous monument has become a victim of vandals. In 1964, the head of the Mermaid was stolen, and 20 years later her hand was cut off.
The last time the statue of Hans Christian Andersen, the main character of fairy tales, was painted in 2020. Then the mysterious words racist fish (racist fish) were written on it.
