The fight between Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk and Briton Tyson Fury may fail. And all because the IBF requires the Ukrainian to hold a mandatory title defense.

As you know, the teams of Usyk and Fury have almost agreed to hold a fight for the title of absolute champion. And the Ukrainian's team has even announced approximate dates when the boxers can meet in the ring.

But boxing fans around the world may not see the highly anticipated fight for the title of undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. The IBF organization, whose belt is owned by Oleksandr Usyk, decided to prevent the unification of the titles, and appointed a mandatory contender for the Ukrainian belt. The organization has announced that Usyk is obligated to face mandatory challenger Filip Hrgovic, Sky Sports writes.

Not the last role in the possible disruption of the fight was played by the promoter of the former rival of the Ukrainian Anthony Joshua. It was Eddie Hearn, who is also Hrgovic's co-promoter, who requested an immediate bid, although Alexander's team had the option to ask the IBF for an extension to face Fury.

appointed the next fight with Philip Hrgovic. He – his mandatory challenger. We have already requested an immediate promotional bid for this fight. He will become Usyk's next opponent”, – confirmed Hearn in a comment to Boxing Scene.

It's worth noting that Hearn has previously been widely criticized for not forcing the fight between Fury and Joshua, and now risks angering fans even more by requesting an immediate bid for the Croatian fight with the Ukrainian.

Hrgovic gained contender status after defeating Zhilei Zhang via unanimous decision in the IBF final qualifier on the undercard of Usyk-Anthony Joshua's rematch in August.

Recall that the teams of Usyk and Fury have almost agreed on a fight for the title of absolute champion. Earlier, the Ukrainian team was told when they could fight.
