 USA: 3 killed, 5 injured in University of Michigan shooting

At least three people were killed and five injured on Monday local time in a shooting on the campus of Michigan State University, according to CNN.

Tweeted by police and service University public security was told: “Confirmed three dead. This is in addition to the 5 injured who were taken to the hospital.”

Acting Deputy Police Chief Chris Roseman told reporters that some of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries.

Roseman noted that the police initially received calls at 8:18 p.m. about a shootout at Burke Hall on campus. The police responded and found several victims. The police then received more reports of shootings in a building next to the university union. According to Rozman, the police acted quickly and provided assistance to the victims in both cases.

“The information we are sharing now is preliminary. The priority now is the safety of our students and the campus,” he said.

Roseman advised people to follow the police department's official Twitter account for reliable information.

The police later released the first photo of the suspect in the shooting. He is supposedly a short, dark-skinned man wearing red shoes and a denim jacket and a navy blue baseball cap. He was last seen leaving the university union building on the north side.
