 US urges Israel and PA to “restore calm”

On Saturday, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and separately with PA President Mahmoud Abbas, reaffirming US support for a “two-state solution”. in the region and asking them to “restore calm”.

Blinken, in a telephone conversation with both leaders, reaffirmed the US commitment to “an agreed two-state solution and opposition to policies that threaten its viability”.

The announcement follows the Israeli government's decision to allow the establishment of several settlement outposts in Judea and Samaria, drawing criticism from major powers, including the United States.

The White House said in a statement Thursday that he is “deeply disturbed” Israeli decision, but nevertheless expressed disagreement with the proposed UN Security Council resolution requiring Israel to stop settlements in the occupied territories.
