 US 5th Fleet commander: Iran ramps up malign activities

Iran continues to ramp up its provocations by attacking ships in the Middle East and carrying out other attacks in the region.

Commander of the US Navy's 5th Fleet told AP in a comment. Vice Admiral Brad Cooper on the sidelines of the International Defense Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi.

In his two years in charge of the Bahrain-based 5th Fleet, he said he witnessed an increase in Iranian malign activities in the region .

“We are focused on expanding our partnerships. Iran's actions are getting everyone's attention. Over the past two years, we have seen an increase in malicious activities, most of which we have recorded only in the last 60-90 days,” he said.

The 5th Fleet is tasked with patrolling the waters around the Arabian Peninsula, including Hormuz strait. Recently, there have been several attacks by the IRGC on commercial vessels in the region, including a UAV attack on the tanker Campo Square in early February.
