In the sea on Carmel Beach in Haifa, an ancient Roman coin was found, which, to the surprise of scientists, was perfectly preserved. This is reported by the Department of Antiquities. The coin was found at the bottom of the sea during underwater archaeological research. It was minted in the name of Emperor Antoninus Pius (138-161 AD) in Alexandria, Egypt. The reverse shows the sign of Cancer, and above it is a portrait of the goddess of the Moon. Also on the coin is the date “eighth year”. The eighth year of the reign of Antoninus Pius is implied. Thus, the coin was minted around 144 or 145 AD.
