Group of United Nations representatives visit Islamic Jihad leader Bassem al-Saadi, who is currently in Israel's Ofer prison. Jerusalem Post reported.
“Today I sent a UN team to visit Saadi to fulfill UN commitments to maintain calm in Gaza. I reiterate that the ceasefire in Gaza is very fragile and I urge all parties to remain calm,” wrote Middle East Peace Process Coordinator Thor Vennesland on his Twitter.
Last week, a UN team visited the Saadi family in Jenin.
Recall that the arrest of Al-Saadi by the Israeli security forces was one of the reasons for the escalation and intense fighting between Israel and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists.
The group insists that that Israel promised to release al-Saadi and administratively detained Khalil Awawda. "Islamic Jihad" also stated that hostilities would resume if this demand was not met.
However, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said in a commentary for Israeli TV Channel 12 that no promises to release Palestinian prisoners of the Islamic jihad” was not.
