UEFA has made a clarification on the abolition of the goals of Ajax in the first leg of the 1/8 finals of the Champions League against real Madrid (1:2)
The goal was cancelled after the chief referee has used a system of videoporama (VAR), which was the first such case in the history of the main European club tournament.
Due to disputes about the validity of the decisions of the referee and UEFA on its official website explained why goal for Ajax against real Madrid was cancelled.
“In the 38th minute of the first match between Ajax and real Madrid Nicolas Tagliafico scored a goal, which had to cancel after viewing VAR. The judge saw the video that talarico teammate, Dusan Tadic was in an offside position and interfered with the goalkeeper, preventing him to play the ball at the moment of impact with his head. The decision was made in accordance with the VAR statement. The goal was correctly canceled, but at the appointed offside free kick”, — reads the statement of UEFA.

In the first half, Ajax managed to score a goal, but he was the first in the history of the Champions League, which was cancelled because of the system of videophones arbitrators (VAR). Referee Damir Skomina decided to watch the replay and overturned the goal for a dubious offside.
After the match, head Ajax coach Erik Ten hag called the decision to cancel the goal of his team against real shameful.
“This moment with VAR could be decisive at this stage of the tournament. It’s a shame that the goal was cancelled. The judge explained that our player allegedly interfered with the goalkeeper, and was offside. I saw the replay. You may need to look at other stuff. I don’t think there was offside”.
The return match 1/8 finals of the Champions League real Madrid — Ajax will take place on 5 March.
