ITV Sport technical director and sports presenter Roger Pierce died suddenly in Qatar while covering the World Cup. He died at the age of 65. The cause of the sudden death was not disclosed. Pierce lived in Maidstone. He was one of the founders of the commercial television station TVS. He worked for ITV for 43 years and died suddenly on the night of November 22 at a hotel. Pierce was due to retire on December 31st. Covering the World Cup in Qatar was to be his last job before retiring. "We are saddened by the news of the sudden death of Roger. It has always been a pleasure and honor for him to work here, he was a resilient industry veteran with a wonderful heart.
