On the evening of March 7, a passenger train derailed in the Egyptian town of Qalub, on the outskirts of Cairo, killing at least four people. Al-Ahram Weekly reported this on March 8.

In addition, 23 people were injured.

The Egyptian National Railways announced that the train driver did not stop at the semaphore with a forbidding signal and drove further to a dead end, where he collided with protection. The impact caused the locomotive and one carriage to derail.

The Egyptian Attorney General ordered an investigation into the accident.

The Egyptian Ministry of Transport has already set up a commission to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
