Toyota has begun testing a system that will allow the recipient to receive the package directly to their car without personal presence, even with the alarm activated. The new technology allows postal couriers to temporarily unlock customers' vehicles using a smartphone.
The vehicles involved in the experiment are equipped with a special Smart Key Box device, which allows a delivery service worker to gain access to a customer's car by scanning a barcode parcel code. The car can be unlocked for a maximum of 10 minutes, and it cannot be started.
If the delivery worker forgets to lock the customer's car, a reminder will be sent to his smartphone.
