Three Israeli villages to take part in UN tourism competition

The Israeli villages of Kfar Kama, Neot Smadar and Zippori were selected on Tuesday by the Israeli Ministry of Tourism as candidates for the title of the best tourist villages of the UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization )for 2022.

The village of Kfar Kama in the Lower Galilee, the creative and environmentally friendly community of Neot Smadar in the southern Negev and Zippori, home of the Zippori National Park in the Galilee, were selected from 17 potential candidates.

“This is an international initiative that will put the State of Israel and selected villages next to famous tourist destinations around the world,” — Israeli Minister of Tourism Yoel Razvozov said.

The UN competition, now in its second year, aims to promote and enhance the role of tourism in protecting and developing villages with a population of up to 15,000. The winner will be announced by the UNWTO Advisory Board in October.

The Israeli Ministry of Tourism promised that the villages ranked 4th-8th in the qualifying competition will receive assistance in preparing the necessary materials for the competition in order to increase their chances of winning next year.

“The tourist village that will make it to the list of winners will become a tourist attraction that will inject money into the Israeli economy, create jobs in the periphery and provide income for the citizens of Israel,” — concluded Razvozov.
