Thousands of tourists stranded in resort town in China due to COVID < /p>

More than 2,000 tourists are stranded in the Chinese coastal city of Beihai due to a surge in coronavirus cases.

Local authorities have placed the city on lockdown and ordered the population to undergo mass COVID testing .

Tourists who have not been in contact with the infected will be allowed to leave the country if they test negative for the coronavirus. The rest must remain in the city and be quarantined.

In Beihai in five days, about 450 cases of infection were detected. As the BBC notes, this infection rate may seem low, but it is considered high in terms of the Chinese government's approach to the pandemic.
