More than 80,000 tourists have been stranded at a popular resort in China due to the coronavirus outbreak.
According to the BBC, local authorities have canceled all flights and trains from Sanya, known as “Chinese Hawaii”. The measures were taken the day after the confirmation of 283 cases of coronavirus infection.
It is noted that in the city of Sanya, a popular surfing destination, entertainment venues were closed, but supermarkets and pharmacies remained open. Authorities also said they would ask local hotels to offer a 50% discount for as long as restrictions are in place.
Tourists are now required to provide 5 negative COVID PCR tests within seven days before being allowed to leave country.
