The leaders of the shipping lines, together with the Korea Registry, the Institute of Nuclear Research and the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute, held a meeting to discuss how to develop small modular nuclear reactors for ships.
< br /> Thus, a cooperation agreement was recently signed for the upcoming commercialization through the development and demonstration of nuclear technology for the engines of large ships, with an emphasis on molten salt reactors (MSR).
Leading factories in South Korea, in particular Hyundai Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy Industries are also developing their own projects for floating nuclear power plants.
