The Royal Navy is monitoring a Russian warship with hypersonic missiles that is sailing in international waters near the United Kingdom.
Metro reports.
It is clarified that the British warship HMS Portland was monitoring the frigate Admiral Gorshkov, which was escorting the Kama tanker.
The movements were monitored on Wednesday, January 11th. It is specified that the Russian warship is armed with Zircon hypersonic missiles, which are capable of reaching speeds of up to 7,000 miles per hour. The Royal Navy emphasized that such tracking is standard practice.
“Escort of warships in territorial UK waters and adjacent maritime areas is a routine activity for the Royal Navy. By maintaining a visible and continuous presence, the Royal Navy enforces the law of the sea and deters malicious activity to protect our country's interests. The escort of a Russian task force, along with the forces of our NATO allies, has demonstrated the UK's commitment to the alliance and maintaining maritime safety,” said HMS Portland Commander Ed Moss-Ward.
