Pope Francis and the head of the Israeli State Holocaust Museum, Yad Vashem, met for a first-of-its-kind talk.

Director of Yad Vashem Dani Dayan met with the Pope on Thursday at his office in the Vatican. The meeting lasted about 30 minutes.

The parties talked about ways to "strengthen joint activities" in areas such as “Holocaust remembrance, education and documentation” and “discussed efforts to combat anti-Semitism and racism around the world.”

Dani Dayan thanked the Pope for the decision to open the archives dating back to the era of Pius XII, who is criticized for doing too little to save the Jews from the Holocaust.
