She was born a year after her parents emigrated to the United States. Her father died of tuberculosis near the end of the transatlantic journey, when they left for Barcelona eight years later. At the same time, Morera herself permanently lost her hearing in one ear. The family's move took place during the First World War. The woman also survived the Spanish Civil War and World War II.
