Human rights activist Pavel Chikov reported on the first case for leaving the army without permission after the announcement of mobilization. He was brought against a resident of Yakutia.

A mobilized resident of Yakutia, whose name is not known, was charged with leaving the military unit without permission. This is the first case of such persecution in Russia, reports on Wednesday, October 26, the head of the human rights group “Agora” Pavel Chikov.

Chikov had at his disposal the decision to initiate proceedings dated October 17th. Interrogating officer in Ulan-Ude Slepnev received a report from his subordinates that on September 30, a junior sergeant called up a week earlier had left unit 46108 without permission. The command failed to find him.

Part 3.1 of Article 337 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation was introduced on September 24, 2022 in a package of military amendments to the Criminal Code. This part provides for punishment of up to seven years in prison.

According to media reports, those who served in unit 46108 – the 5th tank brigade – died in the war in Ukraine.
