The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine opposed the denunciation of the Treaty on the Azov sea

Denunciation of the Treaty between Ukraine and Russia from 2003 on cooperation in using the Azov sea and the Kerch Strait will not give Ukraine any additional rights, and can only lead to a new territorial dispute.

Such opinion on air of the program “Freedom of speech” on ICTV was expressed by the Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine on European integration Elena serkal, reports UKRINFORM.

“As for the agreement, it consists of five articles. One of these articles was never implemented and it was implemented delimitation of the Azov sea… terms of additional rights, Ukraine will get nothing (denouncing the Treaty with Russia on sea of Azov – ed.). We can obtain a new territorial dispute with Russia regarding the delimitation of the Azov sea,” she said.

According to the mirror, a lawsuit of Ukraine to the Russian Federation based on the UN Convention on the law of the sea, despite the fact that there was a bilateral agreement with Russia.

“Indeed, this agreement is, in my opinion, it was concluded illegal from the standpoint of International Maritime conventions, but the answer to this is to give the Tribunal, and we await the answer next year” — said zerkal.

As reported, in recent months Russia detains vessels bound to the ports of Berdyansk and Mariupol. The Minister of infrastructure Vladimir Omelian said that Ukraine conducts talks with the EU and USA to impose sanctions against Russia in response to the blockade of the sea of Azov.

In the U.S. State Department called the actions of Russia in the sea of Azov attempt to destabilize Ukraine.
