Portugal residents have received text messages on their mobile phones warning of the extreme risk of wildfires as the country prepares for a third heat wave.
Portugal has been a state of alert has been introduced. Temperatures are expected to reach 38°C in the coming days and strong winds are also likely.
Reports have warned rural residents not to start fires. The government has also restricted access to forests and banned the use of cars to avoid sparks.
The high alert went into effect at midnight Sunday and will last until Tuesday.
