IDF officer dead: investigation to be carried out

The Israel Defense Forces said on Wednesday it was investigating why the slain Bar Falah officer made a risky attempt to arrest Palestinian terrorists.

The Times of Israel reported.

The officer, 30-year-old Major Bar Falah, deputy commander of the elite Nahal intelligence unit, was killed in an incident near the Palestinian village of Jalama. Falah was buried in Netanya on Wednesday evening.

According to the IDF's initial investigation into the incident, soldiers identified the two Palestinian militants around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday. Israeli military personnel have begun the arrest procedure. However, according to an initial investigation, the military did not know the couple were armed.

The two Palestinians then apparently left the area. IDF Colonel Arik Moyal, along with Falah and his soldiers. Around 1:20 a.m., the pair of militants were again identified and Falah's group began to follow them, trying to detain them.

Later, Palestinian terrorists opened fire and Bar Falah was seriously wounded. The military suspects that the Palestinians planned to ambush the troops stationed at the nearest post and waited after they were first discovered in order to find a more opportune moment to attack.
