Eletronuclear – operator of the Brazilian nuclear power plant Angra – reported that the construction of the third reactor was resumed at the nuclear power plant.
Work on the third Siemens/KWU power unit with a capacity of 1405 MW began in 1984, but was suspended two years after the start. They tried to revive the project in 2006, but due to court cases, construction was stopped for the second time in 2015. The third attempt and a new goal to complete the third power unit – 2026.
At present, the nuclear power plant operates two power units that produce about 3% of the electricity in the country. Brazil's national energy plan stipulates that the country aims to add 10 GW of nuclear capacity within 30 years.
