It is extremely important to prevent the participation of Russia and Russian military personnel in the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024 under a neutral flag. Responding to this challenge requires a coordinated response from the international community. This was stated in a comment by Guildhall, Bundestag deputy, speaker of the Free Democratic Party on sports policy, Philip Hartwig.

“As the spokesman for the Free Democrats parliamentary group on sports policy, I am very concerned about the participation of Russian athletes under a neutral flag at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, given that most Russian athletes are associated with the Russian military. It is extremely important not to allow both the participation itself and the possible sporting success of Russian athletes to be used as propaganda in Russia, as this, unfortunately, can happen, and thus have an indirect impact on the fighting in Ukraine”, — he said.

“Moreover, it is difficult to expect Ukrainian athletes to compete against the military of a country that is responsible for unimaginable war crimes and atrocities in Ukraine. This is clearly contrary to the values ​​and idea of ​​the Olympic Games – peaceful sporting event, which should contribute to the unity and coexistence of all nations on an equal footing”, — noted Philip Hartwig.

!However, this issue also requires a coordinated joint approach of individual countries. This approach is currently being developed in close cooperation with the sports associations and federations and individual National Olympic Committees of the participating countries, especially with our European partners”, & mdash; he summed up.

Also in the European Parliament, Andrius Ansip, a representative of the Renew Europe group, called that the world democratic community must prevent the participation of both the Russian military and security forces, and Russia as a whole, in the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.
