The Jerusalem District Court has ruled in the case of two Arabs who staged a race on the Begin Highway in Jerusalem, as a result of which Yeshua Cohen was killed and his wife was seriously injured .

Three years ago on Rosh Hashana, Badi Jeet and Ismail Hussam decided to have a race on the Begin Highway.

They drove onto the highway in cars with uprated engines. Having accelerated to a speed of 150 km/h – where there is a speed limit of 80 km/h, they took off at Rosemary Junction. There, the limit is 50 km/h, but Jeet was already flying at 200 km/h.

Jeet lost control and crashed into Yeshua's car. He was killed on the spot, his wife Anat lay in a coma for a month.

The court sentenced Jit to 8 years in prison and payment of 250,000 shekels to Yeshua's heirs and another 80,000 to Aanat.

The second participant in the race was sentenced to 6 years in prison and paid 120,000 shekels in compensation to his family and 40,000 shekels to Aanat.

Jit was previously arrested for participating in pogroms and attacks against police in East Jerusalem. and spent a year in prison serving time on terrorism charges.
