Syria urged Iran not to attack Israel from its territory

Syrian officials urged Iran not to attack Israel from its territory. According to The New York Times, such a request was made after the Iranian group attacked American military bases. According to a source in Damascus, such a request came during a virtual meeting between Iran and the parties supported by the country. The Syrians do not want attacks on Israel to be carried out from their territory, as this could lead to a full-scale war. According to senior US officials, the Aug. 15 drone attacks on a US military base in Syria were likely an attempt by Iran to respond to an Israeli airstrike. The day before the drone strike, at least three Syrian soldiers were killed in an attack attributed to Israel against targets near Tartus on the Syrian coast and near Damascus, according to SANA.
