On Tuesday, January 18, the Israeli Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) at the Defense Research Authority (MAFAT) of the Israeli Ministry of Defense and US Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Israel Defense Forces conducted successful flight tests of the Hetz missile defense system; – Arrow Weapon System (AWS) – and the Arrow 3 interceptor.
It is designed to destroy ballistic missiles outside the atmosphere.
The tests were carried out at a test site in central Israel under the direction of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI).
AWS operational radars detected the target and transmitted the data to the battle management system, which analyzed the data and developed a defense plan. Two “Arrow-3” interceptors were launched towards the target and successfully completed the combat mission.
"I highly appreciate the successful results of flight tests — Israeli defense and industry continue to develop some of the most advanced systems in the world. With every step forward, we give the State of Israel new opportunities to defend against ever-changing threats. Our systems give Israel the freedom to strategically maneuver,” Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said.
IAI is the prime contractor for the Hetz missile defense system and Arrow interceptors. MLM designs, develops and manufactures the Arrow interceptors, while Elta, a subsidiary of IAI, develops radar detection systems.
Elisra, a subsidiary of Elbit Systems, develops the battle management system. BOEING, TOMER and RAFAEL are the main subcontractors for the development and production of the Arrow 3 interceptor. RAFAEL designs and develops the ballistic missile simulator target.
