A South Korean police officer under investigation in connection with a deadly stampede on Halloween in Seoul has been found dead in his home.

The 55-year-old man identified as Inspector Chung was an intelligence officer who worked for the local police. He was a suspect in an investigation into the police response to a stampede that tragically killed 156 people.
Inspector Jeon was removed from his position after allegedly covering up police mistakes. He was accused of ordering his colleagues to delete an intelligence report written on the eve of Halloween that warned of the possibility of a serious incident.
Local media reports that a family member found the officer at 12:45 local time in his home in northern Seoul on Friday. Police are investigating the circumstances of his death.
