Sperm Whales washed ashore in Australia en masse

Sperm whales are stranded en masse in Australia.

At least fourteen young sperm whales have died stranded in Tasmania, BBC reports.

Reasons such animal behavior is unknown, and biologists and a veterinarian were sent to the scene to investigate.

Wildlife specialist Vanessa Pirotta said that sperm whales could “misorientate”, follow a sick or disoriented leader, or be frightened by shallow water.
