The authorities of the Balearic Islands have declared war on “excess tourism”, as they called cheap “alcotourism”; mostly by the British. And we are not talking about fines — the authorities decided to engage in direct "amputation" and resort to a radical method.

Such a precedent in the tourism industry will be the first – writes Majorca Daily Bulletin – authorities call on the government to allocate money to buy dangerous tourist “illiquid” – cheap hotels 1-3 * where “alcohol tourists” stay, as well as “toxic” hotels nightclubs and bars. And to buy in order to close and demolish – in place of "cereal" Infrastructure wants to build residential buildings, as well as, in the future, luxury hotels for richer tourists.

As the President of the Balearic Islands, Francine Armengol, said, the Balearic Islands “experience severe overcrowding during the season.” There are more than 625,000 tourist accommodations for 1.2 million local residents, and this is mainly “cheap” accommodation. infrastructure, the main consumers of which – "young and drunk" tourists, mostly from the UK, not only annoying the locals with their antics, but also scaring away the most sane and solvent tourists from the resort. and so they came to the decision that radical measures were needed to combat the “tourism of excesses”.

“The number of places for tourist accommodation can be reduced without compromising employment or the social sphere,” – Armengol assured in her speech.

She stressed that the government plans to allocate about 10 million euros for the "reorganization" tourism under the new adopted law. These funds, in particular, are planned to be spent on the ransom and destruction of “nests of vice”, which the president called “low-class institutions”.

This will include cheap hotels from 1 to 3 stars, as well as night bars and other toxic establishments. They are planned, depending on the place of deployment, either to close forever, or to find an investor capable of “re-profiling” them. establishments for something more “decent” and more profitable.

In general, the new law provides for the liquidation of about 40 thousand establishments in the economy segment. In addition, it limits the creation of new hotels and other infrastructure. As the president said, this could be a “role model” and for other regions of Spain, tormented by the excessive flow of tourists.
