South African Health Minister Joe Paahla announced that the country is on the verge of a fourth wave of coronavirus. This is reported by Reuters.
The new wave of COVID is associated with the recently identified strain of Omicron, but, as Paahla notes, hospitals are “ not under threat at this stage. ''
Joe Paakhla also said that cases of the Omicron strain had been reported in 7 of South Africa's 9 provinces. The Minister expressed the hope that this variant of the coronavirus can be overcome without a large number of deaths.
The South African Minister of Health called on the country's residents to get vaccinated, stressing that this is the main protection against the Omicron strain.
