Fraud, deception and counterfeiting accounted for the largest share of financial crime in 2021 (23%), while tax crimes (11.2%), bribery and corruption (8.7%) and drug dealing (4%) were the other main areas of such crimes. .

These crimes were committed through various mechanisms, primarily international financial transactions (18.7%), cash payments (12.8%) and the provision of illegal financial services (12.3%) .

The report highlights several investigations conducted by the authorities in various areas of financial crime during 2021, including one large-scale investigation conducted in Israel and internationally against an organized crime group.

Minister of Justice Gideon Saar said that criminal activity is becoming more sophisticated and that power is “an important element in our efforts to expose criminals and discover the assets and ways of obtaining money they use.”
