Israeli scientists have found out that the elite of the First Temple times suffered from infectious diseases and parasites.
According to the portal “Arutz Sheva”; , the study was carried out by Tel Aviv University and the Israel Antiquities Authority.
Scientists have discovered the remains of intestinal worm eggs under a stone toilet in a luxury private estate. Their age is estimated at about 2,700 years.
Egg remains belong to four different types of intestinal parasites: roundworm, tapeworm, whipworm and pinworms. According to the researchers, the presence of worms indicates that even the wealthy in Jerusalem at that time suffered from infectious diseases and epidemics.
“ Intestinal worms are parasites that cause symptoms such as stomach pain. nausea, diarrhea, and itching. Some of them are especially dangerous for children and can lead to malnutrition, developmental delays, nervous system damage and, in extreme cases, even death '', & ndash; reported by researchers.
