Scientists say how long the fourth dose of COVID vaccine works

The fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine is effective for six months. This is stated in the results of a study by Sheba Medical Center, published in the New England Journal of Medicine. The study involved health workers who had not previously had coronavirus. The efficacy of the BNT162b2 vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech) was studied. According to the scientists, the protection provided by the third or fourth dose of the vaccine was significantly stronger than by two doses. Both the immune response and the effectiveness of the vaccination in preventing infection with the Omicron strain were evaluated. The third and fourth doses elicited a similar immune response, peaking within a month of administration and tapering off gradually over about four months. The study also showed that the overall effectiveness of the vaccine in preventing Omicron was 40% during the first six months, with rates reaching 50% in the first months.
