Scientists: mental disorders increase the risk of COVID mortality

Mental disorders such as schizophrenia increase the risk of death from coronavirus fivefold and the risk of hospitalization threefold.

According to Molecular Psychiatry, this was reported by scientists from the University of Manchester in the UK.

In particular, they conducted studies involving 1925 patients with schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders, 1483 & ndash; with bipolar disorder and 41 448 & ndash; with depression.

According to the results, 16,282 people contracted the coronavirus, 2885 & ndash; ended up in the hospital, 1081 & ndash; died from complications.

According to scientists, the risk of mortality increases by 3.76 in people with bipolar disorder and by 1.99 in people with depressive disorder.
