Scientists from Africa estimate the mortality of the Omicron strain

Researchers at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases in South Africa and their colleagues at the University of Pretoria analyzed and found that the mortality rate from the Omicron strain is 75% lower than from other strains.
This was reported by The Telegraph.
Scientists observed patients hospitalized in the city of Tswan (Gauteng province), where the initial outbreak of the new strain occurred.
As it turned out , among those hospitalized with Omicron, 4.5% of patients died, while in previous waves of coronavirus this figure reached 21.3%.
Specialists also found that patients were discharged from the hospital after four days on average. In the case of other strains, patients were hospitalized for 8.8 days.
