In Romania, the prosecutor's office opened a criminal case against five doctors who are suspected of reusing hundreds of implants extracted from dead patients.
According to Reuters, the case was filed in Saturday, February 18.
It is specified that one suspect from the Iasi hospital was taken into custody. He is accused of abuse of power and taking a bribe.
According to prosecutors, the doctor oversaw a network of four other colleagues who provided him with heart implants extracted from the deceased without the prior approval of the deceased or their families.
Since 2017, he has performed 238 surgeries involving the illegal use of medical devices, putting patients at risk of serious complications or death.
