The International Tennis Federation has suspended the membership of the tennis federations of Russia and Belarus due to the invasion of Ukraine. This was reported by the Tennis Federation of Ukraine.
“An extraordinary conference of the International Tennis Federation was held. The main issue was the ratification of the decision of the Board of Directors to suspend the membership of the Russian Tennis Federation and the Belarus Tennis Federation and disqualify the national teams of these countries.
As a result of the secret ballot, 80% of the conference delegates supported the exclusion of the federations of the aggressor countries from the ITF. 20% of the delegates were against such a decision.
Thus, the tennis federations of Russia and Belarus have been finally suspended. The question of the suspension of individual athletes will be discussed in the future.
It is reported that before the vote, the floor was given to the representatives of the federations of the aggressor countries Yakov Shatkhin and Sergey Rutenko, who unanimously declared their categorical disagreement with the removal of their organizations.
