Following an intelligence operation conducted by the Israel Antiquities Authority and the Antiquities Trade Division of the Manhattan District Attorney's Office in New York, an extremely rare coin was handed over to Israel that had been stolen and taken from the Jewish State many years ago.
According to Arutz Sheva, this is a quarter shekel silver coin from the fourth year of the Great Jewish Revolt (66-73 AD).
“This is a historic achievement for the State of Israel and for the preservation its cultural heritage sites, as this is only the second time they have been looted and smuggled out of Israel that they have been returned to the state. This is the beginning of a very positive and important trend in the restoration of cultural heritage sites,” said Eli Escosido, director of the Israel Antiquities Authority.
