Rare animal born in England - red panda

A rare red panda was born at Hertfordshire Zoo in England.

It is known that the animal was born in July, now the zoo management is waiting for the baby to grow up to carry out a veterinary examination.

It is worth noting that today less than 10 thousand red pandas remain in the wild, they are listed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature as an endangered species.

Although the animal is called a red panda, it is still more closely related to raccoons and weasels than to giant black and white pandas. In what they are similar to the latter – the bamboo diet.

The word “panda” comes from the Nepalese word "ponya", which means "bamboo" or "herbivore".
