 Qatar accused eight former Indian Navy officers of espionage

Eight former Indian Navy personnel who have been detained in Qatar for more than 70 days have been charged with espionage, according to News18.

In late October, India sent a senior official to Doha, the capital of Qatar, to help his embassy staff secure the release of staff. The charges against these former Navy officers remain unknown.

According to media reports, the Indian officers were hired by the Qatari company Dahra Global Technologies and Consultancy Services to train and provide services such as logistics and equipment maintenance for the Qatari Navy.< br />
Eight people have worked for the company for the past few years. One of the detained officers is Purnendu Tiwari, the firm's managing director.

On August 30, all eight former Navy officers were detained by Qatar's intelligence agency — State Security Bureau. The Indian Embassy in Doha apparently only learned of the arrest in mid-September, the newspaper writes.
