Colonel of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Mehdi Molashakhi and the militant “Basij” Javad Kikha were shot and killed by unidentified assailants on Tuesday afternoon in Zahedan during anti-government protests. According to human rights groups, the IRGC and other Iranian security forces have brutally cracked down on protesters in Zahedan in recent weeks, killing more than 80 people. and the IRGC, while Iranian state media claimed that “separatist forces” attacked an Iranian base in the area.

On Wednesday, the Iranians will mark the 40th day of Amini's death, an important milestone in Shia mourning rituals. Large-scale protests are expected throughout the country.
