Pfizer begins work on vaccine against Omicron strain

Albert Burla, CEO of Pfizer, said the company has already begun work on a vaccine specifically targeting the new Omicron coronavirus strain. AFP reports this.
A new vaccine, developed specifically against the new strain, may be needed if the existing vaccine proves ineffective.
Burla said he did not think the vaccines did not protect , but if trials show that existing drugs “ protect less, '' then that would mean a new vaccine needs to be developed.
The Pfizer CEO compared the current situation with the beginning of the year, when Pfizer and BioNTech developed a vaccine for 95 days, because there were fears that the vaccines available at that time would not work against the Delta strain.
